IN reply to Mr. Campbell's letter of the 26th May, relative to the refusal of the Chinese Government to recognize the provisional line laid down by Sir George Scott on the Namting-Nalawt section of the Burmah-China frontier, and with reference to Sir A. Godley's letter of the 31st May as to the exercise of supervision over the houndary, I am lirected to acquaint you that Mr. Secretary Brodrick concurs in the Marquess of Lansdowne's proposal to approve Sir E. Satow's suggestion that the note on the subject from the Chinese Government, dated 30th March last, should be ignored for the present.

I inclose herewith, for Lord Lansdowne's information, a copy of a telegram which Mr. Brodrick has sent to the Government of India on the subject.

His Majesty's Government have approved suggestion in Satow's No. 113, dated 4th April, to ignore Chinese note for the present. Such measures as are possible

should be taken to exercise supervision over provisional boundary.
